Who Can be Sponsor

Sponsor of Canadian spouse visa must be authorized by IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) to ensure the hassle-free visa allocation to sponsored person. To sponsor the spousal sponsorship visa, a sponsor must be related to the sponsored person like spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner. There are two types of spousal sponsors as a part of Spousal sponsorship Canada.

1. Outland Sponsorship

If the sponsored person lives outside Canada then the spousal sponsorship is called outland sponsorship. The outland sponsorship visa application is submitted to the applicant’s home country. If the outland partner lives in Canada, then the partner can also apply as an outland partner.

2. Inland Sponsorship

Inland sponsorship is another way to get a spouse visa. This is the case when both the partners stay in Canada and the partner being sponsored has temporary status in Canada like a visitor, student or working visa holder. A person being sponsored for spousal sponsorship visa can also apply for an open work permit to work in Canada.

Eligibility to be a Sponsor

One can become a sponsor of any category of spousal visa if he/she meets the requirements given below:

  • Must be 18 years or above
  • Must be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada
  • Ensure that you are not getting any social benefits (except for disability)
  • Ensure that you can provide basic needs to the sponsored person
  • If you live in the Quebec province of Canada, you need to fulfill Quebec’s condition for sponsorship.
