The Apparel and Footwear Website, Zappos

An American online shoe and clothing retailer company based in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States founded by Nick Swinmurn in 1999, was acquired by Amazon in July 2009. It is now Amazon’s subsidiary company and enjoys extreme popularity as the American apparel and footwear dealer. The brand sells shoes, clothing, and accessories from major brands, Adidas to Nike. After it was acquired by Amazon, nothing changed in terms of its staff and culture for Zappos. Zappos still works in its own style while Amazon owns it.

The Software Company, Elemental Tech

After the acquisition Amazon renamed the software company, Elemental Tech to AWS Amazon Web Service. Not only a retail company, Amazon is also engaged in the broader technology sector. Currently it is the world’s leading on-demand cloud computing company. It contributes majorly to the company’s revenues and profits. Jeff Bezos not only owns companies in the US but also has shares in the middle east marketplace. Souq.com based in Dubai is popularly known as the ‘Amazon of the Middle East’. Amazon acquired e-commerce company in 2017 rebranding it as amazon.ae. The company has a strong foothold in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The 143 years old newspaper was founded and owned by the Graham Family. It has won 69 Pulitzer Prizes for its work and has the second most Publication after the New York Times.

The Grocery Company, Whole Foods

A physical store having multinational chains has been Amazon’s largest acquisition till now. Whole Foods has more than 500 supermarkets in the United States, 7 in the United Kingdom till now. Amazon has kept it as a separate brand dealing with only organic food products that have no hydrogenated fats and artificial colors flavors and preservative distribution. Founded in 1993 by  a wholesale distributor of apparel fabrics, the Phoenix Textile Group, Inc, Fabric.com was acquired by Amazon in June 2008. The store’s first website was launched in 1999. It is a hugely popular store online to buy fabrics, apparels and swimwear.
