Dassault Systèmes SE has launched a students competition that aims to reevaluate the usage of plastic. The participating students will be able to hone their skills in design, project planning and creation of value proposition while using digital 3D-technologies.

During the competition, students from all over the world will be able to use 3DEXPERIENCE platform in order to develop innovative solutions for environmentally safe utilization of plastic. We live in a world where 220 million tons of plastic is produced yearly. Therefore, in order to foster innovation in circular economy for plastics, this joint project between Dassault Systèmes and Prince Albert II of Monaco foundation has been launched.

A lot of modern manufacturing companies are using Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform to develop new biomaterials and optimize production and design of plastics. These researches can be considered to be the original means of minimizing the possible aftermaths of improper utilization of plastics. During the course of Sustainability Challenge, students that specialize in design, engineering, business and marketing communications will be involved in the above-mentioned projects. Moreover, the students will use cloud-based digital applications during their working days in order to freely design, engineer and work on their projects cooperatively. Thus, the students will get an in-depth experience of business processes with an opportunity to help design a better world where  plastic is used in the right places and as sustainably as possible.

Each participating team gets free access to 3DEXPERIENCE platform in order to provide innovative solutions to the below-mentioned tasks:

  • Streamline: transform a product shape to use less plastic;
  • Remake: use an everyday plastic product and remake it;
  • Link: build or optimize a physical and social network to increase rate of repair, secondary use, and recycling for a product.

The final projects will then get thoroughly assessed by the following criteria: creativeness, social, ecological and economical impact, quality and efficiency  of solution, and the implementation of 3D-technologies.

The projects are accepted up to 02/10/20, and the winners will be announced shortly after at the 21th of February. The Grand Prize winning team will be invited to the Monaco Ocean Week in March 2020 to present their project in front of an expert audience.
