This is the age of IOT – internet of things, where almost every technology is now connected with one another via internet. From AC, refrigerators, to your locks, cars, everything is accessible from one network. And very frequently, new devices keep coming up that enter this IOT list.

Here also, we will be talking about one such item – smart locks.

What are these smart locks?

The locks we are referring to are the bolts and locks people use on their doors. Unfortunately, now these locks are no longer secure considering the amount of thefts rising in the world. Also, have you ever lost your key to the lock? Happens with many people out there. Add to that the laziness one feels when he or she has to get up from the couch every time to open the lock and door.

Here comes the usage of smart locks.

Every problem mentioned above gets clear if you have enabled a Wifi Smart Lock at your main door. Now you can connect that lock with your laptop or phone and answer the house or secure it, whatever you want. These locks also secure your house automatically when you leave it and go outside. And with just a few taps on your device, you can simply unlock your house and enter inside.

Now, the question comes how all of this is possible?

How smart locks work?

Smart locks are usually mounted on mechanical locks (eg. deadbolts, simple locks, etc.). They upgrade the physical locks and make them more secure. And they are operated using a phone or tablet, or any other such device. More than the people of the house entering inside, these smart locks are helpful to grant access to a third person.

The key to the lock is sent over an SMS or an email to the third person, who can now enter inside the house freely. BUT, the timings are also set by the person sending the key. That is, the key is valid for only a certain time duration, during which the third person has to enter.

Wifi Smart locks allow for additional features such as camera monitoring about who is entering or who is requesting access, access notifications, and so much more. Overall, they add a great security feature to your smart home.
